Crawdads washed out again; chance for free admission Sunday

Hickory Crawdads News Release
The good news: the severe drought that has plagued Hickory and the rest of North Carolina this winter is showing signs of disappearing. The bad news: the Hickory Crawdads can't open their 2008 season.
For the second night in a row, the Crawdads season opener was postponed due to rain, this time because of pounding thunderstorms in the area.
Hickory will now play the West Virginia Power in back-to-back doubleheaders, one Saturday and one Sunday, each consisting of two 7-inning games. Saturday's twin bill begins at 6 p.m., while Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Because of the circumstances, the Hickory Crawdads are looking to make the most of this unique weekend for their fans.
Saturday pre-game events include the Aquafina Pitch Hit & Run from 3-4:30 p.m., while the Crawdads Free Baseball Clinic will follow immediately from 4:30-5:30.
Friday's post-game fireworks will occur in between games one and two, so make sure not to miss the show.
What could be better than that? Free baseball.
If Saturday's action also succumbs to rain, the Crawdads are inviting any and all fans to enjoy Sunday's doubleheader for free, no questions asked.
To reward the patience of the best fans in the South Atlantic League, L.P. Frans Stadium will open Sunday with no need for tickets because all the action will be on the house.
Opening Night starting pitchers Duke Welker (Hickory) and Roque Mercedes (West Virginia) are scheduled to pitch game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Hickory's Rafael Delossantos is scheduled to throw against West Virginia's Amaury Rivas in game two.
