Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA- Following last night's pitching duel to open the season, tonight's match-up between the 'Gnats and the 'Fish was marked by a display of hitting. Every inning of the game saw scoring from at least one team, save for the ninth. Savannah began the game by scoring at least one run in each of the first four innings, marked by a big third inning; in which Jose Jimenez hit a two-run homer, scoring Richard Lucas, followed up by a triple from Raul Reyes three batters later that plated Richard Pena.

Columbus managed to grab one run in the fifth and two in the sixth on a homerun from Stephen Vogt, scoring Reid Fronk.; but even another run in the eighth could not help Columbus climb back in to the game as any momentum they may have summoned was squashed by a wall of rain that spurned a fifty-nine minute rain delay in the top of the ninth. The Catfish were quickly put away by pitcher Jose Bierd in the latter half of the ninth, as he induced a ground ball, a pop-up, and caught Seth Dhaenens looking.
