(Eastlake, OH)— The Cleveland Indians announced today that Captains righthander Chip Southerland has been assigned to extended spring training, and that righthander Bo Ashabraner has been added to the Lake County pitching staff.

Ashabraner, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound reliever, is expected to be in uniform for Wednesday's game in Lakewood, New Jersey at 7:05 P.M. (WELW AM 1330).

Southerland opened the season as the Captains closer and was 1-2, 5.40 ERA and five saves in fifteen games. Southerland, 22, has struck out 20 hitters in 15 innings this year, giving up nine earned runs and four homers.

Ashabraner, 23, played four seasons at Long Beach State, and made his pro debut at Burlington last season after the Tribe selected him in the 8th round of the draft. He was 2-1, 6.06 ERA with two saves at Burlington.

The Captains begin a five-game road trip Wednesday in Lakewood. Following three games with the BlueClaws, the Captains will play games Saturday and Sunday in Delmarva before returning home to Eastlake Ballpark on Monday, June 7th.
