Suns Continue Dominance Against Delmarva
June 2, 2004 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release
The Suns and Shorebirds played for the fourth time this season Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium, and for the fourth time the Suns were victorious. The interstate-interdivision rivalry has been one-sided for the past two seasons, as Hagerstown has proven baseball in Western Maryland is supreme. The Suns won last year's season series against Delmarva by a tally of 10-4 and now lead this season 4-0.
Bryan Millikan started the ballgame for the Suns, but left the game after an injury, pitching only one inning. The status on the extent of the injury is unknown at the moment.
Jesse English came into the game for his injured teammate and pitched four innings of one hit ball shutting down the Delmarva offense. English held the Shorebirds off into the fifth before giving way to Joe Bateman. Bateman did not look his best but he managed to fight through two innings, allowing only one run en route to his fifth victory of the year.
The scoring for the Suns began with a single by Brian Munhall to lead off the third inning, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly from Jesse Schmidt. Jason Columbus continued his hot hitting, singling in the sixth and scoring the go-ahead run on an RBI single from Brian Munhall.
Tim Alvarez pitched a scoreless ninth for his league leading 12th save of the year. The two team play tomorrow at 7:05 at Municipal Stadium.
