First Place RiverDogs Return Home

June 2, 2004 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release

(Charleston-SC)- With the talk of the town echoing over the NCAA Baseball Tournament, the Charleston RiverDogs quietly creep back into town Thursday in first place in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League.

Coming off a winning road trip, and with the first half of the season coming to an end in 18 days, Charleston has the chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 1988.

Kelly Jo Kuharski, runner-up from ABC's popular television show, "The Bachelor," will visit Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Thursday, June 3. Kelly Jo was denied a rose by Bob Guiney, but the RiverDogs will give her plenty of options to choose from with their Salute to Real Men of Genius on a Wild Wing Café Thirsty Thursday. Discount beverage specials at the Ashley View Pub and Grill highlight the RiverDogs first home game in nearly two weeks. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

NEWSONG will be in concert following Friday's 6:05 p.m. game with the Rome Braves. A Christian-music favorite for over 20 years, the Grammy Award-nominated, adult contemporary band will perform following the game and Sprint Friday Night Fireworks.

Saturdays are giveaway nights at Riley Park. June 5, the first 1,000 fans will receive the 2004 RiverDogs Team Baseball Card Set presented by Hardee's. Collectors will be lined up to receive 2003 top pick Delmon Young's first professional card, included in the set. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the 7:05 p.m. game vs. Rome.

The Columbus Catfish swim into town for a three-game series beginning Sunday, June 6 at 2:05 p.m. Fans can play catch on the field, and kids can get autographs and run the bases afterwards on a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Family Sunday. The RiverDogs will salute outstanding Lowcountry students on "Applause Day" at the ballpark.

Mondays are "Dogs With a Cause Nights." On June 7, the RiverDogs will invite non-profits Meals on Wheels and Locks of Love to the stadium to promote their causes.

A 96 Wave Two-for-Tuesday rounds out the homestand June 8. It is also Simply Awful Night, in which the RiverDogs will "celebrate" the good, the bad and the ugly (we'll focus more on the bad and the ugly, though).

Tickets for all RiverDogs home games and the 45th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game, June 29 at Riley Park, are available by visiting the Riley Park Box Office, by phone at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) and online at etix.com and riverdogs.com.
