Caps Sink Seals for Second Straight Night

September 5, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Victoria, B.C. - After struggling away from the friendly confines of TELUS Field for most of the 2010 Golden Baseball League season, the Edmonton Capitals have, oddly enough, won back-to-back games on the road in Victoria over the Seals.

The Caps were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Friday, but that didn't stop them from edging out the Seals 8-5. And they followed it up on Saturday in much more decisive fashion, only allowing one Victoria run in a 7-1 drubbing.

Edmonton starter Evan White was dominant in seven innings on the mound, giving up just six hits and the lone run while striking out a pair of Seals. The offensive stars on the night were short stop Enrique Cruz and catcher Nick Valdez. Cruz went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and two RBI, and Valdez was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Right fielder Kevin House, left fielder Larry Bigbie and centre fielder Steve Brown each knocked in a run to round out Edmonton's scoring. They each had a double as well, giving the team seven two-baggers on the night.

The Caps will go for their third win in a row against the Seals on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The teams then close out the 2010 GBL season on Monday, also at 1:30 p.m. The first-half champion Chico Outlaws and second-half champion Calgary Vipers will then battle it out for the North Division title.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats for 2011 are now available, and individual game tickets will be available next season for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
