Tucson Toros News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros 2010 season finished with the team winning 14 games out of their last 15 games despite having their streak snapped by the Yuma Scorpions 7-5 Saturday night. Tucson finished the regular season with a 26-18 record in the second half and a 46-43 overall record.

The two teams were locked in a back and forth battle as both teams combined to score in 5 of the first 8 frames of play. The games was tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the 2nd when Tucson scored 3 times partially aided by a pair of Scorpion throwing errors on the same play to give Tucson the 4-1 advantage.

Yuma overcame the early miscues utilizing some small ball to successfully execute a pair of squeeze bunts to score 2 runs. Yuma later added another run in the 7th to gain the 6-5 lead.

Tucson threatened with a leadoff double in the 8th by 2B Jose Valdez, but the Toros failed to capitalize. The Scorpions added one more insurance run in the 9th inning as the Toros fell short of their 15th straight win, losing 7-5.

Valdez, CF Josh Womack and 3B Wally Backman Jr. each finished with 2 hits. Both of Womack's knocks were triples, giving him a Golden Baseball League leading 11 on the season and extending his own personal career high in the category for a single season.

The Toros players, coaches and staff would like to thank the Tucson community for all your support during another memorable season and are looking forward to another exciting year in 2011! Go Toros!
