Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols (23-23-5-3), fresh off a 4-3 shootout thriller on Friday night against Green Bay, will take to the ice again on Saturday night, hosting the Des Moines Buccaneers (22-27-3-0) at the Alliant Energy Center for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
The Capitols have been unbeatable at the Alliant Energy Center of late, winning each of their last six games on home ice dating back to Jan. 17.
Ryan Edquist kept his team in the game despite being outshot all night on Friday by Green Bay. His 39 saves got the Capitols into overtime and eventually a shootout, where Luke McElhenie picked up the game-winning tally.
Edquist has taken the reins in net of late for Troy G. Ward's club, winning four of his last five starts, including three straight on home ice.
The Buccaneers have had a rough stretch in the month of March, losing each of their last five games and falling out of playoff contention in the Western Conference. They are paced offensively by one-time Capitol Kenny Hausinger, who has registered 43 points in 52 games this season. Madison area native Ty Pelton-Byce has also had a strong first season in the USHL with 36 points.
The Capitols dispatched of Des Moines in the clubs' first meeting at Buccaneer Arena on Feb. 13, winning 4-2. Drew Hotte was victorious on that night for the Capitols, denying 37 Des Moines offerings, while McElhenie scored a pair of goals in the win.
Des Moines has had a scuffling offense during their losing skid, tallying just eight goals in the last five games. They allowed six goals to the Tri-City Storm in a 6-3 loss on Friday night on home ice.
The next victory for the Capitols would equal their win total from their inaugural 2014-15 USHL season.
After just a one-game weekend in Bloomington in the week to come, the Capitols return home for three straight games to close out the home slate from April 1-8 against Muskegon (twice) and Bloomington.
