Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, Ne. - The Tri-City Storm picked up points in its 13th straight game, its longest point streak ever, with a 4-1 win over the Sioux City Musketeers Saturday at the Viaero Center.
The Storm is 8-0-2-3 over the 13-game streak, eclipsing its previous best of 12 games during its inaugural 2000-01 season. The win places the Storm one win away from clinching a berth in the Clark Cup Playoffs.
Walker Duehr, Jake Wahlin, Max Humitz and Joe Cipollone tallied for the Storm, giving Tri-City nine different scorers this weekend.
Dayton Rasmussen made 35 saves, the most he has had in a win this season. The native of Eden Prairie, MN earned his fourth USHL win.
The Storm has points in 30 of its last 33 games and 22 straight conference games. Tri-City has the best record against the Western Conference this season, 19-8-5-3, good for 46 points.
The Storm's Duehr continued his hot pace at 7:21 of the first, one-touching a right-post feed from Alex Limoges to open the scoring. Limoges devised the play perfectly, driving the high slot to force attention before he saucered the one-time pass to Duehr. Dan Labosky took the secondary helper.
The Minnesota State commit Duehr, 18, has four goals and four assists in his last eight games. In addition, Duehr has three goals in four games against the Musketeers, his former club.
Both offenses clicked in the second. Wahlin struck first, ripping a wrist shot from the left circle to the short post at 3:12 of the second, with assists to John Marino and Mattias Goransson.
Wahlin has 13 goals and 39 points, two short of matching his previous best in goals (15) and points (41).
After an even strength goal by Ryan Bederka at 7:06, the Musketeers' power play showed cracks with chances to tie. Down, 2-1, Sioux City failed to score on a 5-on-3 man advantage with Tory Dello and Joey Matthews in the box. Next, the Musketeers could not tally on a five-minute man advantage. Brandon Duhaime was assessed a two-minute roughing and the five-minute match penalty for removing Ian Scheid's helmet.
Sioux City finished 0-for-7 on the man up, tied for the most kills by a Storm in a game this season.
Max Humitz scored at 3:37 of the third for a two-goal cushion before Joe Cipollone buried the Muskteers with an empty net goal.
The Storm starts a home-and-home with the Des Moines Buccaneers next Friday, March 25, at 7:05 p.m. on Comicon Night, presented by the Troll's Den.
