Caps Host Muskegon Seeking 4th Straight Win

Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols (13-8-4), winners of three straight and seven of their last ten, look to extend their winning streak on Monday as they host the Muskegon Lumberjacks (18-7-2) at the Alliant Energy Center at 7 p.m.

The Capitols and Lumberjacks have squared off once this season in the season's opening game, which saw Muskegon come out on top, 4-3, at L.C. Walker Arena on Sep. 27.

Luke McElhenie tallied the first goal in Madison history while shorthanded, and Ryan Lohin & Guillaume Leclerc also tallied their first USHL goals in the defeat.

Including tonight, three of the Capitols' next five games are against the Lumberjacks, as Madison will travel back to Muskegon for a weekend set on Jan. 9-10.

Madison carried on its strong play after the holiday break by defeating the Green Bay Gamblers, 2-0, on Saturday at the Resch Center. Sam McCormick and Marco Richter provided the goals, while Darren Smith turned in the first shutout in Capitols' history, stopping 21 shots.

The matchup tonight features the USHL's third- and fourth-leading scorers in Muskegon's Griffen Molino (32 points) and Madison's Will Johnson (31 points). The duo also sits atop the USHL's lead in assists (Molino 25, Johnson 24).

Overall, Madison sits at 13-8-4 on the season; they sit at fifth place in the USHL's Eastern Conference, three points behind fourth-place Dubuque. Muskegon enters at 18-7-2, good for second place in the USHL standings, trailing only Cedar Rapids (21-6-0). Both team have been hot of late, having won seven of their last ten games. Madison has won nine of its last twelve contests.

The Capitols complete their 2014 calendar year on Tuesday when they host the Green Bay Gamblers for the last of eight meetings in the Wisconsin Cheese Cup. Madison has clinched the season series, going 6-0-1 in the first seven matchups.
