Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM Hockey player awards for the 14th week of the 2014-15 USHL regular season.
Winners include Brock Boeser of the Waterloo Black Hawks, recognized as CCM Forward of the Week; Keegan Ford of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, chosen as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Darren Smith of the Madison Capitols, selected as CCM Goaltender of the Week.
Brock Boeser, F, Waterloo Black Hawks: Playing his first USHL games in three weeks, the forward tallied five points (4g, 1a) over two victories for the Black Hawks. He netted two goals and dished out an assist in Saturday's 5-4 win against the Des Moines Buccaneers. The 17-year-old followed up with two more goals, including the game-winner, in Sunday's 5-1 victory over the Fargo Force. All four of his goals came on the power play and he now leads the USHL with nine total power play goals this season. He is currently tied for fourth in League scoring with 31 points (16g, 15a) through 23 games this season, while his 16 goals are tied for the second-most in the USHL. A product of Burnsville High School in Minnesota, Boeser is a top prospect for the 2015 NHL Draft.
Keegan Ford, D, Dubuque Fighting Saints: The defenseman recorded four points (1g, 3a) and a plus-three rating to help the Saints earn a pair of victories during the weekend. He dished out three assists in the 6-1 victory against the Bloomington Thunder on Saturday, which was just his second game of the season with the Saints. Ford followed up by scoring the game-winning goal in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Chicago Steel. Four of his six USHL career goals have been game-winners. He was also part of a Dubuque penalty kill unit that turned away all 11 opponent power play chances during the two-game weekend. It is the third USHL season for the product of Waunakee High School in Wisconsin. The 18-year-old has totaled 37 points (6g, 31a) in 106 USHL career games with Dubuque.
Darren Smith, G, Madison Capitols: The goaltender stopped all 21 shots he faced for Madison in Saturday's 2-0 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers. It was the first shutout of the inaugural season for the Capitols, which included turning away all three power play chances for the Gamblers. Smith's performance extended the team's road winning streak to five straight contests, and he has been in net for all five victories, posting a 1.70 goals-against-average and .939 save percentage over that span. The 19-year-old has won eight total games this season for the Capitols and is currently tied for 10th among USHL goaltenders with a .909 SV%. The Barrie, Ontario native played for Pembroke in the CCHL prior to his time in the USHL and will play college hockey at Ferris State University.
