Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols (17-12-7) take to the ice for the first game of a three-night weekend as they host the Waterloo Black Hawks (13-21-3) at the Alliant Energy Center on Friday at 7 p.m. It is another $1 Beer Night for Capitols fans from the time of the gates' opening at 6 p.m. through the end of the first intermission.
It is the second and final meeting between the Capitols and Black Hawks; Madison picked up a 3-2 victory at Young Arena on Nov. 7 for the first road victory in franchise history. Former Waterloo defenseman Cooper Watson (Appleton, Wis.) scored his first USHL goal late in the third period for the game winner.
The Capitols and Black Hawks were active on the trading block on Thursday through a player swap. Madison acquired forward Sean MacTavish (Edmonton, AB) from the Black Hawks in exchange for defenseman Mason Anderson.
Waterloo had its four-game win streak snapped on Saturday against the Sioux City Musketeers, but the Black Hawks have performed well of late, thanks in large part to the play of newly acquired goaltender Cale Morris from Chicago. Morris is 4-1 in his first five starts with Waterloo, boasting a goals-against average of 1.41 and a .942 save percentage.
Madison enters play looking to snap a four-game losing skid, the squad's longest drought since an 0-4-2 start to the regular season. Madison has picked up an overtime point in two of the last four contests, a 3-2 overtime loss to Lincoln on Jan. 21 and a 4-3 extra-time defeat last Saturday against Omaha.
A pair of Green Bay natives, Sam McCormick and Jarod Zirbel, each scored goals in both of Madison's home games a weekend ago; McCormick has now joined Freddy Gerard (13 goals) and Haralds Egle (10 goals) with double digit goals on the campaign.
Following the Capitols' tilt with Waterloo, Madison welcomes the Youngstown Phantoms to town for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday. Entering play Friday, Youngstown sits in the final Eastern Conference playoff spot with 43 points, while Madison rests in fifth at 41 points.
Tickets for all three weekend contests are available by visiting the "Tickets" tab of www.madcapshockey.com or by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
Saturday, Feb. 7 is Kessler's Diamonds giveaway night; the first 500 fans will receive a piece of cubic zirconium, one of which will be a true diamond. Puck drop on Saturday is set for 7 p.m. Sunday will be D.C. Eagle's birthday bash as various area mascots will join the Capitols' eagle for a 3 p.m. start.
