Capitols Gain Point in Overtime Loss

Fargo, ND - The Fargo Force overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Madison Capitols 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night at Scheel's Arena.

The Capitols power play went to work midway through the opening frame as Stepan Pokorny delivered a beautiful no-look pass to Kristof Papp. Papp wound up and delivered a missile past Cole Brady for the 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the first period. Ryan Kirwan picked up an assist as well.

Papp made magic happen again as he scored the Capitols first shorthanded goal of the season to double the lead four minutes later on another backhanded feed from Vernes Egle this time. Papp rifled a one-timer top shelf past Brady for the 2-0 lead to finish the first.

Fargo tied the game with two early goals from Tristan Broz and Noah Beck within the first four minutes of the final period of regulation to force overtime.

Branden Suter was sent to the box for an interference call, and on the ensuing possession, Gustav Muller hit the ice from a Fargo stick, but the Force were able to overcome and pull away with two points.

Garrett Mackay finished the night 37 of 40 saves en route to the loss. Madison's power play scored once, while the penalty kill gave up two including the game-winner.

Madison returns to action next Friday, November 22ndwhen they return home to host the Chicago Steel for $1 Beer Night presented by the Kollege Klub, Wando's, and Redzone Madison. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.
