SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Sioux Falls Stampede dropped the first game of three in three days on the road against rival Sioux City Musketeers 5-2 Friday night at the Tyson Events Center. The Musketeers opened the game with two goals before Brian Carrabes and Ryan Sullivan scored, but, ultimately, were unable to rally and defeat the Western Conference foe. Arseni Sergeev made his United States Hockey League debut in net for the Stampede, stopping 33 of 38 shots.

Sioux Falls began the game with a pair of penalty kills, stopping both of the Musketeer chances, and a power play opportunity of their own without a result. Neither team found the back of the net in the first twenty minutes of play.

The home team came out of the intermission with a quick goal from their leading-scorer, defenseman Dominic Vidoli, 32 seconds into the period. The Musketeers followed it up with another tally at the 11:43 mark of the second from Ray Christy. Both teams split a pair of power play chances in the period, but it was the Musketeers outshooting the Herd 12-7.

Looking to rally, the Stampede opened the third period with a goal from leading scorer Brian Carrabes. Forward Tyler Coffey made a pass across the left circle to a wide open Carrabes who picked the opposite corner of Sioux City goaltender Ethan Haider. Despite opening the period on a good note, the Musketeers responded with a goal of their own just 15 seconds later to regain the two-goal lead.

Forward Ryan Sullivan one-timed his third goal of the season off a cross-ice pass from teammate Jared Westcott on the power play, bringing the Herd back within in one at the 12:54 mark of the third. A couple of untimely turnovers in the defensive zone allowed the Musketeers to beat Stampede rookie goaltender Arseni Sergeev one on one to extend the lead 5-2.

The Stampede finished the evening 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Musketeers failed to convert on all three of their attempts. Goaltender Sergeev (b. 2002) became the youngest goaltender in team history to make the start in net at 16 years, 10 months and 26 days.

The Stampede will return to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center to host the Green Bay Gamblers both Saturday and Sunday evening. On Saturday the Herd will be celebrating Military Appreciation Night presented by Royal River Casino and the South Dakota Army National Guard. The players will wear military-themed specialty jerseys that will be live auctioned off after the game. For Sunday, the Herd will be holding a coat drive for fans to donate new or gently used coats for two free tickets the night of the game. Puck drop scheduled at 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 5:05 p.m. on Sunday. Fans can catch the game streaming live at HockeyTV.com or listen live on KELO Radio 107.9 FM, 1320 AM or Kelo.com.
