Madison Capitols News Release
Middleton, WI - The Madison Capitols (3-6-2) edged out the Green Bay Gamblers (6-7-1) in a shootout on Friday night at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. The first of several matchups this year brought about a defense-heavy battle, with 68 total shots, but only 3 able to fall.
Capitols goaltender, Joseph Lamoreaux, made a multitude of unreal saves in the game, including one in the second period that went to an official review. Madison thought they had the momentum rolling into the third period as they had the physicality in their favor.
Green Bay was able to break through first as they headed to a four minute power play thanks to a high sticking call on Madison's Robert Blueger. In the middle of the Gamblers second power play, a fortunate bounce off a body in front of the net beat Lamoreaux through the five-hole.
The Capitols were a team destined to score when they need to, and they had it happen again from a red-hot Josh Boyer. Robert Blueger worked the puck out of the corner before a brave play by Chaz Smedsrud found Boyer in front of the net who buried the puck top shelf to tie the game with only 2:57 remaining left in regulation.
Another scoreless period led to a shootout for the second straight game. Lamoreaux rebounded to stop all three Gamblers shots, while Calvin Pokorny was the hero of the night with the lone shootout goal.
Lamoreaux improves to 3-5-1 on the season, while increasing his save percentage to 93.2% on the season. The Capitols return to action on Saturday when the Chicago Steel come to town for the second time this season.
Don't miss out on any of the action this season as the Capitols embark on their 5th season in the USHL. Ticket packages, suites, and group outing are available now at www.madcapshockey.comor by calling the front office at (608) 257-2277.
