Capitals Recall Former Stingrays Goalie Pheonix Copley from Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Pheonix Copley from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and re-assigned goaltender Justin Peters to Hershey for conditioning purposes, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Copley, 22, posted a 6-3-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.00 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage in 11 games with Hershey (AHL) this season. The North Pole, Alaska, native earned his first career win in his AHL debut on Oct. 13 at Norfolk, stopping 29 of 31 shots. Copley recorded 15 saves on Oct. 19 at Hartford to register his first AHL shutout and stopped all 26 shots he faced in his next start on Oct. 26 against Lehigh Valley to earn his second career shutout. The 6'4", 196-pound goaltender signed with Washington as a free agent on March 19, 2014.

Peters, 28, registered a 2-3-1 record with a 3.28 goals-against average and a .872 save percentage in seven games with Washington this season. The Blyth, Ont., native made his Capitals debut on Oct. 14 vs. San Jose and stopped 20 of 21 shots on Oct. 18 vs. Florida to earn his first Washington win. Peters has posted a 24-34-9 record with three shutouts, a 3.07 record and a .901 save percentage in 75 career NHL games with Carolina and Washington. He signed with Washington as a free agent on July 1, 2014.

The 6'1", 210-pound goaltender played in six games with the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) in 2013-14, posting a 4-1-1 record with a 2.14 goals-against average and .932 save percentage. Peters was named to the AHL All-Star Classic in 2010 and 2013 and was named Top Goaltender at the skills competition during the AHL's All-Star weekend in 2013. In 219 career AHL games with Charlotte and Albany, Peters has posted a 98-95-10 record with 13 shutouts, a 2.72 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
