
Thunder Drops Mallards 4-1

MOLINE, Ill. (January 9, 2015) - Jared Walker broke a 1-1 third period tie and t he Wichita Thunder (17-11-6) went on to defeat t he host Quad City Mallards (17-13-5) 4-1 Friday night . With the win, the Thunder took over second place in the ECHL's Central Division and dropped the Mallards to third.
Walker swooped into the slot to score the first of three unanswered Wichita goals at 6:43 of the third- just 44 seconds after Mike Monfredo's wrist shot from the left point had tied the game for the Mallards.
Ian Duval provided a crucial insurance goal for the Thunder by stealing the puck deep in the Mallard zone, walking into the goalmouth and lifting it past Quad City goaltender Evan Mosher at 13:36 of the final frame. Danick Gauthier's empty net goal finished off the Mallards with 1:55 remaining.
Nikita Kashirsky's wraparound opened the scoring with just 1:51 left in the second period.
The Mallards return to action next Friday night at home against the Rapid City Rush at 7:05 p.m. Next Friday also brings the return of $1 Dog/$1 Beer Night presented by 97X and MetroLINK. Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and beers from iWireless Center concession stands during all Friday home games. 97X will follow in the spirit of the evening by presenting hot dog-themed intermission entertainment.
After next Friday night's game fans can join Mallards players at Governor's Pub & Grill locations at 3470 Middle Road in Bettendorf and 2180 53rd Street in Moline.
Tickets for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- including next Friday night's contest- are on sale now at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000 . The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and game days from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the second period. Tickets are available for $10, $16, $20 and $28.
