Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Forward Christian Ouellette scored twice and goaltender Roman Will stopped 39 shots on Friday as the Fort Wayne Komets (25-6-2) topped the Greenville Road Warriors (21-13-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, 4-1 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
With the loss, the Road Warriors fell to 10-5-0 on SANDLAPPER Securities Rink this season, while Jason Missiaen's career-best winning streak came to an end at five games.
Following a scoreless first period, Shawn Szydlowski put the Komets on top just 18 seconds into the middle frame with his team-leading 19th goal of the season. From the behind the net, C.J. Severyn centered a feed to Szydlowski in the right circle for a one-timer into the back of the net.
The Road Warriors used their first power play of the game to draw even at 4:37 of the second period courtesy of Ryan Hegarty. With Garrett Meurs in the box for tripping, Hegarty ripped a one-timer from the left point that sailed through traffic and past the blocker of Will.
Fort Wayne notched the game-winning goal with less than 45 seconds remaining in the second period when Ouellet earned his fifth goal of the season. From the right side, Mike Embach gained the zone on a 2-on-1 rush and fed the puck to Ouellet in the left circle, who went down to a knee for a one-time shot past Missiaen.
The Komets added insurance with a pair of goals in the third period for the 4-1 final. At the 2:04 mark, Ouellet notched his second goal of the contest when he walked to the right circle and wristed a low snap shot around Missiaen's blocker. Meurs capped the scoring at 14:27 of the third when he pounded home his 11th goal of the season from the slot.
The game included one tilt between Bretton Cameron and Embach at 7:33 of the first period.
Greenville finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. Will (3-1-1) made 39 saves for the win, while Missiaen (8-5-1) stopped 32 shots for the loss.
The Road Warriors outshot Fort Wayne 40-36.
