Cannon Ballers Shutout Shorebirds in Series Finale

KANNAPOLIS, NC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (9-23) could not secure a series victory against the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (16-16) as they were defeated 5-0 on Mother's Day.

After a scoreless first, Kannapolis took the lead in the second on a solo home run by Luis Pineda to begin the inning, putting Delmarva behind 1-0.

Pineda struck again in the third as he delivered an RBI double to score Ryan Galanie, extending the Cannon Ballers' lead to 2-0.

Kannapolis brought home a pair of two-out runs in the fifth with an RBI single by Ronny Hernandez and a run-scoring triple by Arxy Hernandez to make it a 4-0 game.

Another run made its way home in the sixth on an RBI double by Caden Connor, extending the Delmarva deficit to 5-0.

For the second day in a row, the Shorebirds could not get their bats going as Kannapolis pitching dominated the afternoon, led by their starting pitcher, Jake Bockenstedt, who tossed six shutout innings for the Cannon Ballers, their third consecutive quality start in the series.

Delmarva's offense was held to four hits on the afternoon and was defeated by a final of 5-0, ending the series in a 3-3 split.

Both starters factored into the final decision as Jake Bockenstedt (1-3) earned the win with Ty Weatherly (1-3) taking the loss for the Shorebirds.

Delmarva now heads to Lynchburg, Virginia to begin the second leg of their 12-game road trip as they'll start a series against the Hillcats with first pitch of the series opener scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
