'Canes Reassign Dwyer To Albany

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today right wing Pat Dwyer has been returned on loan to Albany by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.

Dwyer, 24, was called up to the NHL for the first time in his three-year pro career by Carolina on Saturday. It was anticipated that the Great Falls, Montana native would be in the Hurricanes lineup on Sunday against Ottawa, but he was a late healthy scratch instead. Drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Dwyer has 19 points (11 goals, 8 assists) and a +6 rating in 54 games for Albany this season.

In other news the Hurricanes placed right wing Jeff Hamilton on re-entry waivers Saturday with the intentions of recalling him to Carolina. The other 29 NHL teams have until noon on Monday to claim Hamilton off waivers, otherwise he will fly to Raleigh Monday afternoon to report to the 'Canes. Hamilton, 30, has nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) and a +3 rating in nine games played for Albany since being reassigned from Carolina on February 26th.

The River Rats return to action on Wednesday, March 19th for a 7:00 pm face off against their East Division rivals, the Hershey Bears, at the Times Union Center. It will be their last home game of March, not playing another game in Albany until Wednesday, April 9th against Norfolk.
