Rewind the Tape:
3.12.08 - Worcester 1 - San Antonio 3 - DCU Center
In a very physical contest, the Worcester Sharks dropped a 3-1 decision to the San Antonio Rampage at the DCU Center on Wednesday night. The Rampage scored the first three goals of the game and Dan Spang scored late on the power play for the Sharks. Sharks netminder Thomas Greiss had 18 saves on 21 shots while Josh Tordjman had 29 saves for the visitors from Texas.
3.14.08 - Worcester 6 -Lowell 1 - Tsongas Arena
Behind a strong goaltending performance by Dimitri Patzold and a balanced offensive attack, the Worcester Sharks trounced the Lowell Devils, 6-1 on Friday evening at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. Worcester held a 2-1 lead after one period and extended it to 5-1 after two which was too much for the Devils to handle. Patzold finished the evening with 27 saves on 28 shots while Lowell's Dave Caruso stopped 24 of 30 pucks sent his way.
3.15.08 - Worcester 1 - Springfield 4 - Mass Mutual Center
A strong second period wasn't enough as the Worcester Sharks fell behind early and were unable to claw back in a 4-1 loss to the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night. The Sharks outscored the Falcons 1-0 in the second and also killed off a five minute major and a two minute 5-on-3. But Springfield scored an early goal in the third to shift momentum back in their favor on their way to handing Worcester a crushing defeat.
3.16.08 - Worcester 1 - Hartford 4 - DCU Center
An episode of déjà vu struck the Sharks on Sunday during their home ice loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack at the DCU Center. Despite a different venue and different opponent, for the second straight game Worcester was scored upon from behind its own goal line, trimmed a 2-0 first period deficit to 2-1 with a dominant second period, and let the game slip away in the third en route to a 4-1 final score.
Sharks in the Atlantic...
The Sharks (26-30-4-6) swim in sixth place with 62 points in the Atlantic Division, seven points behind Manchester for fifth and eighth points behind the Falcons for the fourth and final playoff spot. The Sharks have played 66 games, which is one less than Manchester and Springfield. The Sharks trail the Providence Bruins by 36 points for the top spot in the Atlantic.
Sharks Bites:
*F Mike Iggulden is tops on the team with 22 goals, 33 assists, 55 points, and 155 shots, and was the lone Sharks representative in the 2008 AHL-All Star Classic in Binghamton, NY.
*Oren Eizenman made his Sharks debut on Sunday after being signed to a PTO from Fresno; he played in one game for the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals earlier this year without registering a point.
*Dennis Packard registered points in consecutive games with a goal at Springfield and assist vs. Hartford.
*With his assist in the second period on Saturday vs. Springfield, Graham Mink extended his point streak to three games. Despite not earning a point on Sunday, he still has 14 points (8 g, 6 a) in the last 12 games.
*Marc Busenburg's goal at Lowell was his first in the AHL since the 2004-05 season when he played for the Springfield Falcons
*Worcester's three goals and two power play goals in the second period Friday both tied season-highs.
*Iggulden also tied a Sharks' season-high for assists in a period (2) in the second on Friday. That mark also tied a personal season-high for assists in a game.
*Brad Staubitz set a new season-high with three points (1g, 2a) and tied his high with two assists while Busenburg tied a season-high with two points (1g, 1a) in Lowell on Friday.
*Staubitz and Pierre-Luc Leblond dropped the gloves on Friday, ending a 270+ minute drought of no fights in the Lowell/Worcester season series.
*T.J. Fox's penalty shot vs. San Antonio was the team's first of the season and second in franchise history. The other time was on Mar. 2, 2007 when Grant Stevenson converted against Providence
Roster Moves:
*On Tuesday, the Worcester Sharks signed Brown University defenseman Sean Hurley to an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO). The Sharks then signed forward Oren Eizenman to a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO) prior to Sunday's game vs. Hartford.
