Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release

Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes had plenty to celebrate about in the first before a determined Rebels team ended the party. After killing off a pair of penalties to start the game Austin Fyten notched the 14th Annual Global TV Canadian Tire Teddy Bear Toss goal on the power play to give the Canes a 1-0 lead and spark a shower of 2238 stuffed toys from the rafters. All of the stuffed toys found very worthy homes as the Hurricanes made donations to several local charities who were on hand to help sort and bag the gifts.

But the celebration was short lived as the Rebels would battle back with a goal just a few minutes later to make the score 1-1 going into the second. Red Deer then notched the only goal of the second period to take a 2-1 lead before Mike Reddington got things going again just 44 seconds into the third with his first of the 09-10 campaign. But the Rebels would take the lead once again on the power play seven minutes into the frame to make it 3-2. Rookie Mitch Maxwell then stepped up to notch his team leading 14th of the season and tie the game for the third time, but it was only minutes later the Rebs scored the game winner. The Hurricanes were 1 for 5 with the man advantage while allowing the Rebels to go 1 for 6. The loss drops the Canes to 9-16-3-1 on the season.

On a brighter note, the Hurricanes, Canadian Tire and Global TV want to thank all the fans for being a part of the Teddy Bear Toss once again! Through their efforts we will be providing much needed support for the Chinook Regional Hospital Pediatric Ward, the Salvation Army, Streets Alive Family Support, the Lethbridge Interfaith Food Bank, Lethbridge Family Services, the Lethbridge Red Cross, and the Piikani Food Bank. The Hurricanes would also urge all those who may have not been able to attend to make donations or help out at any of these very worth while charities.

Lethbridge will look to bounce back tomorrow night as they take on the Medicine Hat Tigers at the ENMAX Centre. This will be the Tiger's much anticipated first visit of the 09-10 season to Lethbridge. In their last meeting this past Tuesday, the Canes made the trip down Highway 3 and came home with a 3-1 win. Secondary scoring, combined with solid goaltending from rookie Brandon Anderson resulted in the Canes 9th win of the season. Anderson made 28 saves on 29 shots to raise his record to 4-5-1-1 and his save percentage to a solid.904. The Canes power play went 0 for 3 on the night but the penalty kill was relentless, holding the Tigers to 1 for 7 with the man advantage and the highest scoring team in the league to just 1 goal on the night. Sobey's - a proud WHL partner returns as a game night sponsor for this evening.

Game time is 7:00 p.m. MST and tickets can be purchased by visiting the ENMAX Centre Ticket Office, the Yates Theatre Centre, by calling (403) 329-SEAT or online at: www.lethbridgehurricanes.com.
