
Canaries Win in Walk-Off Fashion over Wichita

SIOUX FALLS, SD-RJ Perucki proved to be a clutch hitter for Sioux Falls (17-20) on Monday night, as the hard-hitting third baseman recorded his second walk-off game of the year. Perucki stroked a ball into left field that scored Michael Wing in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Birds' held on for a 4-3 victory over the Wichita Wingnuts (17-20) in front of 2,874 fans at Sioux Falls Stadium.
Sioux Falls struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Brian Humphries hit a moon shot over the left field wall. The Canaries later scored in the bottom of the fourth when catcher Richard Stock drove a deep ball to center field for a sac-fly that scored Humphries to put the Birds' ahead by two.
Wichita answered with three runs in the top of the fifth when Canaries starter Stephen Bougher (2-0, 3.50) gave up five singles. The Canaries didn't go down without a fight as David Bergin reached on a walk in the bottom of the ninth. After a hard hit fly ball by Richard Stock, Wing stepped to the plate and scorched a triple off of the right field wall. Perucki than stepped to the plate for Sioux Falls, and on the first pitch sent a single into center field that drove in Wing to end the game in a walk-off.
Chris Grayson, Brian Humphries and Michael Wing also paced the Canaries offense as they each picked up two hits apiece.
Stephen Bougher had another strong outing for the Birds' as he tossed eight innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs, but recorded the no decision. Sioux Falls relief pitcher Tyler Pearson picked up the win, as he threw one inning and only gave up one hit.
Wichita's starting pitcher Omar Bencomo (1-0, 1.96 ERA) recorded the no decision as well, throwing seven innings and allowing six hits on one earned run. Wingnuts closer Brad Mincey picked up his third loss of the year after giving up two earned runs on 1/3 inning of work.
Sioux Falls is back in action on Tuesday evening as RHP Jeremy Strawn (2-4, 4.13 ERA) will get the nod as he looks for his third win in a Canaries uniform, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
