Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS ( June 29, 2015) - The Wichita Wingnuts were forced to place their leader in batting average Jayce Ray on the disabled list Monday afternoon. In order to help fill the void created by the absence of their center fielder the club turned to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Former University of Central Missouri speedster Trevor Jones joined the active roster and will make his professional debut on Monday night.

Jones capped his four-year career at the Division II school by earning 2015 First Team All-MIAA honors as well as recognition on both the Daktronics and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Central Region Second Teams. The native of Florissant, Missouri earned those awards by leading the Mules in batting average, triples, hits, runs scored, and total bases. He hit .377 with nine doubles, six triples, a home run, and 24 runs batted in. He put together a 21-game hitting streak during the year and reached base safely in the final 37 games of the season. Central Missouri was eliminated in the final four of the MIAA Tournament in May.

Jones was named Honorable Mention All-MIAA in 2014 as junior when he hit .360 with 30 RBI. Other impressive numbers for the outfielder included a .454 on-base percentage, 17 multi-hit games, and 16 stolen bases in just 18 opportunities.

The 22-year old batted .364 in his first season as a starter during his sophomore year after playing in 10 games as a true freshman in 2012. Prior to college, Jones was a two-time first team all-conference selection at Hazelwood West High School. After his senior year he was selected to participate in the Delta Dental All-Star Game at Busch Stadium.

The Wingnuts will open a six-game road trip with a 7:05 p.m. game against Sioux Falls on Monday night. For information on season tickets, group outings, and party packages, call the Wingnuts' main office at (316) 264-NUTS, or visit the Wingnuts' official website at www.wichitawingnuts.com.
