Saints Claim Third Weekly Award

ST. PAUL, MN (June 29, 2015) - The St. Paul Saints pitching staff has been the best in the American Association since the beginning of the season. The starting five is an astounding 24-5 with a 2.62 ERA. For the first time this season one of those starters has been recognized by the league. Left-hander Kramer Sneed was named the Pointstreak American Association Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 22-28.

The 26-year-old Sneed tossed two solid games, one against the second best team in the league, the Sioux City Explorers, and the other against division foe the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. He went 2-0 allowing just one earned run in 14.0+ innings. He gave up nine hits, walked five and struck out eight. On Monday, June 22 he gave up two unearned runs in the first inning against the Explorers when the Saints defense committed two errors. After that he allowed just four singles from innings two through eight and allowed just two runners to reach second base as the Saints won 5-4. He would go 8.0 innings allowing two unearned run on five hits while striking out two. On Saturday, June 27 in Fargo the lone run he gave up came in the third. Following an hour and seven minute rain delay Sneed struggled with his control giving up a single and walking three which plated the lone run he gave up. Outside of that inning he allowed just one runner as far as second, a double by Charlie Valerio in the fifth inning and went 6.0+ innings allowing one run on four hits while walking five and striking out six.

On the season Sneed is 6-1 with a 2.17 ERA in eight starts. In 49.2 innings pitched he's walked 18, struck out 30 and opponents are hitting a miniscule .210 against him. Sneed is currently tied for first in the American Association in wins, fifth in win percentage and opponent's batting average against and seventh in ERA.

Sneed was with the Angels organization at the beginning of the season and pitched in one game at Double-A Arkansas tossing 4.0 shutout innings of relief before being released. Last season he spent the entire year at Double-A Arkansas and went 8-11 with a 4.68 ERA in 28 games (26 starts). In 138.1 innings pitched he walked 66 and struck out 109 while opponents hit .255 against him.

Sneed was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 32nd round of the First Year Player Draft out of Barton College in 2010. In his first two years he was promoted during the season, going from the Rookie Gulf Coast League to Short Season A in 2010 and from the Single-A South Atlantic League to the High-A Florida State League in 2011. In 2011 he struck out 51 in 39.2 innings pitched and had a solid WHIP of 1.25.

Just before the 2013 season Sneed was traded to the Angels organization along with OF Exicardo Cayones and cash for Vernon Wells. Sneed spent most of the time at High-A Inland Empire where he was a California League All-Star. He went 7-4 with a 4.09 ERA in 16 starts. In 81.1 innings pitched he walked just 23 and struck out 73.

This is the third Pointstreak American Association Award for the Saints this season. Designated hitter/first baseman Ian Gac was named the player of the week for the first week of the season and catcher Vinny DiFazio was selected for the week of June 15-21.
