Sioux Falls, SD - Lindsay Gulin pitched the Lincoln Saltdogs (17-9) to an 8-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries (11-13) on Tuesday night at the Birdcage. Gulin (10-1) pitched eight five-hit shutout innings while striking out seven and walking two in picking up his league-leading tenth win of the season.
The Saltdogs got on the board in the first with back-to-back doubles by Evan Tartaglia and Pichi Balet. Balet's tenth RBI of the series gave the Dogs an early 1-0 lead.
Lincoln loaded the bases in the second inning. Brian Warner hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Casey Gordon, and Josh Patton followed up with a three-run homer to bring the Saltdogs to a 5-0 lead over the Canaries. The Saltdogs added three more runs in the eighth for the 8-0 win.
Gulin's tenth win of the year ties him for the American Association lead with former Canary Cory Walters. Birds Starter Doug Johnson (5-6) pitched 5.1 innings and took the loss for the Canaries.
The four-game series continues on Wednesday night at the Birdcage for "Church Night", presented by North American Baptist Seminary.
