Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

St. Joseph, MO - The Sioux Falls Canaries (14-29) are protesting Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the St. Joe Blacksnakes (24-20) as a result of a controversial call in the fourth inning.

The call took place in the fourth inning with the Canaries trailing 2-0 and Dennis Anderson at the plate with Ralph Santana on first base. Anderson doubled to score Santana, but the play was overturned. Blacksnakes manager Chris Carmanucchi argued the play, contending that first base umpire Brad Auge had called time. After a long discussion, and conversations with both managers, the umpires ruled that time was called and the run came off the board.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Blacksnakes added to their lead. Jimmy Mojica walked and advanced to second on a groundout by Scooter Jordan. A throwing error by Canaries catcher Dennis Anderson allowed Mojica to third, and a single by Ben Thomas scored Mojica to make it 3-0.

The Canaries got on the board in the sixth. Dustin Delucchi and Ralph Santana hit back-to-back singles to put two men on. A wild pitch advanced them into scoring position, and Chad Hermansen singled to score Delucchi and make it 3-1.

After missing a chance to get the tying runs home in the sixth the Canaries would put the tying runs aboard in the seventh, eighth, and ninth. The game ended when a line drive by Jason Sugden was stopped on a dive by Jimmy Mojica.

Peter Bauer (1-4) took the loss pitching only two innings. Bauer gave up a run in the bottom of the first on a groundout by Wil Quintana and one in the bottom of the second on a single by Ben Thomas. Bauer left the game prior to the start of the third inning with an injury to his right arm. Bauer missed his last start due to a right-triceps injury.

Andrew Edwards (1-1) picked up the win for St. Joe and Jamie Tricaglou picked up his first save of the season.
