Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries will be hosting their first-ever amateur baseball invitational at the Birdcage July 5-9. "Rage at the Cage" allows local amateur baseball teams to get together and pay tribute to America's favorite past time.
"With the Canaries on a long road trip, it gives the people of Sioux Falls and area baseball fans a chance to see top amateur teams in play at the Birdcage," said Larry McKenney, Assistant General Manager of the Canaries.
The invitational is open to the public, and will cost only $4 for adults and $2 for children. The event is sponsored by Canaries friends of Wells Fargo, True Value Hardware Stores, Sioux Valley, Beckman's Implement, Royal River, Qwest, Dakota Care, and Golden West Communications.
The Wood Bat Invitational will feature teams from the Sioux Empire, Corn Belt, and South Central Amateur Leagues. Players range from 18-50 years old. Opening play of the invitational will pit two of the teams against two area men's senior teams (50+ years old). On Sunday, the Class A and Class B state champions from last year will meet in play for the final game in the invitational.
Next year, August 2007, Sioux Falls will host the state amateur baseball tournament.
