
Mirizzi strikes again, Cats' win third straight

Marc Mirizzi was 2-for-4 with his second homer in as many nights as the Cats walloped Coastal Bend 9-2 in front of 5,484 fans Tuesday night at LaGrave Field.
The win, the Cats' third in succession, combined with losses by Coastal Bend and Pensacola, brings the Cats to within one game of the division lead.
The Cats were leading 2-0 in the third inning when Mirizzi clubbed a pitch from Jose Luis Lopez over the grandstand in right field. The homer extended his hitting streak to nine games and gave the Cats a 5-0 lead.
Fort Worth added a run in the fifth before Coastal Bend scored twice in the sixth to trim the Cats' lead to 6-2. But the Cats responded with two runs of their own in the sixth and added an additional run in the seventh to make it 9-2.
Kip Harkrider was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in for Fort Worth. The Cats had 14 hits in the game and now have 26 over the first two games of the series.
Former Cat Bryon Smith was 3-for-4 in the game with a run scored.
Starter Cory Walters (6-3) earned the win after going 5 1/3 innigns and allowing two runs on 10 hits. It was Walters' fourth win in a row. Lopez (0-2) suffered the loss as he permitted eight runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3.
