
Canaries Lose 7-4 in a Rain Shortened Game

The Canaries scored right out of the gate in the first inning. Cameron Coughlan got on base with a lead off single. Coughlan went to second on a groundout by James Shanks and advanced to third when Ben Van Iderstine reached on an error by Blacksnakes third baseman Carter McQuigg. Abner Arroyo knocked a two-out single up the middle to plate Coughlan for the first run of the game. After a half inning the Canaries led, 1-0.
The Blacksnakes took the lead in the bottom of the second. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for Terry Robles. With two away, Robles singled through the left side to plate two runs and give the Snakes a 2-1 advantage.
The Birds went back in front in the fourth inning. Matt Imwalle walked and Tim Marks followed with his second homer of the season. Marks went opposite field to put the Canaries in front 3-2. The Birds added another in the inning when Jake Smith singled and came home on a double by Cameron oughlan to give the Canaries a two-run lead, 4-2.
The Snakes went back in front in the bottom of the inning. Curt Miaso singled and advanced to second on a groundout by Chad Sosebee. A walk to Terry Robles put runners on first and second for Andy Wilson. Wilson singled to score Miaso and cut the Canaries lead to one, 4-3. After a wild pitch advanced the runners into scoring position, Victor Burgos singled to plate two and put St. Joe ahead, 5-4.
St. Joe extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Dustin Yount started the inning with a single and David Fowler followed by grounding into a fielder's choice. Fowler stole second base and came in to score on a double up the left field line by Curt Miaso. Fowler's run put the Blacksnakes ahead by a pair, 6-4. With a runner on second and two away, Lenny Bays came on in relief of Canaries starter Micah Posey. Bays threw two wild pitches in the inning, allowing Miaso to come in and score. After six innings, the Snakes led, 7-4.
Rain stopped the game in the top of the seventh inning. Under a downpour of rain and a tornado watch, the game was stopped without resuming play.
Micah Posey (4-9) took the loss for the Canaries. Kellen Raab (5-6) got the win for St. Joe. The teams will meet for the final time this season on Thursday night at Phil Welch Stadium.
The Birds will return to Sioux Falls Stadium on Monday, August 20. They will host the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. August 20 will be NASCAR night presented by Alltel Wireless.
