
Saints Rally in Ninth for 4-3 Victory

ST. PAUL, MN (August 8, 2007) - For the second time in four games the St. Paul Saints won a game in their final at bat scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 4-3 come from behind victory over the El Paso Diablos on Wednesday afternoon at Midway Stadium in front of 7,754.
With the Saints trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth Ben Thomas started the inning with a single to center field. Ryan Priddy followed by popping out on a bunt, but Thomas advanced to second on a passed ball. Scooter Jordan lined a single to center off of closer Ned Darley which scored Thomas to tie the game at three. Jordan advanced to second on the throw home. Skip Adams followed with a grounder to short and Jordan was thrown out attempting to go to third. Adams then stole second and scored on an RBI single by Fernando Valenzuela Jr. to end the game.
The Saints squandered a number of opportunities on the afternoon failing to score in two separate innings when they had the bases loaded and less than two outs. They did, however, jump out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Adams hit a solo shot over the left field wall, his second of the season.
The Diablos, however, tied the score in the fourth when Jorge Alvarez walked and moved to second on a single by Juan Camacho. With one out Matt Kent singled home Alvarez.
In the sixth Camacho led off the inning for the Diablos by reaching on an error from Ryan Priddy. With one out Kent doubled him home to give the Diablos a 2-1 lead.
The Diablos finished their scoring in the seventh when Kory Drew walked with two outs and scored on an RBI triple from Alvarez.
Saints starter Justin Lord was solid going 8.0 innings allowing three runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out six, but received a no decision.
The same two teams meet Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. in the series finale. The Saints send RHP Alec Shepherd (1-0, 3.86) to the mound against Diablos RHP Michael Cervera (2-1, 4.31).
