Walk-Off Single Does Diablos In

Fernando Valenzuela Jr. hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth as the Saints downed the Diablos 4-3.

The Saint Paul Saints took the early lead. In the bottom of the first Skip Adams blasted a solo homer to left field for the 1-0 lead.

The Diablos knotted things up in the top of the fourth. Matt Kent had a run-scoring single with runners on the corners to plate Jorge Alvarez, tieing up the score at one.

El Paso took the lead in the top of the sixth. Juan Camacho reached base on a ground ball error to the second baseman Ryan Priddy. Matt Kent picked up his second RBI of the ball game with a double hammered to the right center field gap. El Paso took a 2-1 advantage.

The Diablos extended the lead in the top of the seventh. Jorge Alvarez smashed a triple to right field which scored Kory for the 3-1 lead.

St. Paul crept back in the bottom of the seventh. Adam Olow led off the frame with a double. He moved to third base on a single by Ryan Priddy. Jordan scored Olow on a ground ball fielder's choice, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Saints won the game in the bottom of the ninth. Ben Thomas led off the inning with a ground ball single. He would advance to second on a passed ball. Scooter Jordan slapped a single to center field scoring Thomas for the tie. Skip Adams then hit a bouncer to the short stop and Jordan was thrown out at third base. Fernando Valenzuela Jr. stroked a single through the right side for the walk-off base hit as Adams crossed the plate in the 4-3 victory.

Aaron Trolia tossed four innings allowing one run off of five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Justin Lord threw eight full allowing two earned runs off of eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Ned Darley takes the loss as he threw two thirds of an inning allowing two earned runs off of three hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

The Diablos will close out their four game series at St. Paul on Thursday night at 6:05 PM (MST). Mike Cervera will get the start against Alec Shepherd. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1380 AM as well as at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
