Aviators Drop Twin Bill to Pelicans

August 8, 2007 - American Association (AA)
Coastal Bend Aviators News Release

All the momentum Coastal Bend had from their four game sweep over Shreveport evaporated in a hurry against a Pensacola team that came out swinging Tuesday night. After taking an early lead on Stephen Morales' second inning homer, the Aviators surrendered six runs in the final four innings to lose game one 6-2 and trailed the entirety of game two, falling 7-4.

Each Coastal Bend starter surrendered a big inning, which neither man could recover from. In game one Kevin Hull went 6 innings but allowed 4 runs including 3 in the fourth when three singles, a walk, and two sacrifices put Pensacola on top 3-1. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Coastal Bend had an opportunity to climb back in it when they put the first two men on with none out. They managed only one run however and still trailed 4-2. Pensacola added two more in the seventh when they collected two hits and two walks off reliever Miguel Martinez for the final margin of victory. Trino Aguilar finished the game 3 for 3 with a homerun and 2 runs scored for the Pelicans. Morales was 2 for 3 with the homerun for Coastal Bend.

In game two, TJ Hendricks allowed 3 in the top of the first when Chris Reynolds doubled to left, Ricardo Cordova bunted for a hit, Marcos Rodriguez singled to left, and Bo Williams doubled to right center. The Aviators offense got one back in the bottom of the frame on consecutive singles by James Lofton, Bryon Smith, and Grant Richardson to cut the deficit to 3-1. But the Pelicans offense kept rolling with single, double, and sacrifice fly in the third to regain their three run lead at 4-1 before they blew it open in against Hendricks in the fourth with 2 more runs. Pelicans catcher Joe Hulett walked and advanced to second on a passed ball. Bo Brown hit an RBI single to left center and stole second. Cesar Aranguren doubled down the left field line to score him, and Pensacola was in control 6-1. The Aviators scratched out a run in the bottom of the fourth and got two in the seventh on Matt Spencer's double to center, but fell shy off another comeback.

Todd Androsko was the winning pitcher of game one and improved to 5-5 on the year while Hull took the loss and is now 6-7. Game two starter Andrew Edwards was the winner for Pensacola. He's now 2-9, while Hendricks falls to 3-9. Game three of the four game set is Wednesday night at 7:05pm and can be heard locally on KOPY 1070 AM as well as online.
