Lincoln 3, Sioux City 2

The Lincoln Saltdogs got a run in the bottom half of the ninth inning, their first run since the first frame, to top Sioux City in a close one. Despite good outings by each starting pitcher, neither Brian Buchanan of Sioux City nor Dan Reichert of Lincoln factored in the decision. Both had a bit of a rocky first inning but settled into a duel the rest of the way. It was reliever Mark Roberts who notched the victory for the Saltdogs when all was said and done. The win improved his record to 6-3 on the year. Lincoln RF Bryan Warner led the way at the plate in the win, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Coastal Bend Aviators broke open a 1-1 tie with three runs in the eighth inning to sneak past Pensacola at home. Starting pitcher Pedro Flores notched his fifth win of the season thanks to some great pitching. Flores allowed just one run on six hits and did not walk a batter in eight innings of work. Aviators closer Tom Atlee notched his 16th save of the year by tossing a perfect ninth. Coastal Bend was led at the plate by C Stephen Morales who was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. 2B William Lewis also homered for the Aviators. He finished the game 1-for-3.

St. Paul 4, El Paso 3

Runs weren't very easy to come by in St. Paul despite the fact that the Saints and the El Paso Diablos combined to pound out 20 hits in the contest. In the end, the game hung on the closers, with St. Paul stopper Tony Pierce coming out on the winning end. Pierce took over in the ninth for starter Justin Lord, who went eight strong innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out six. Saints CF Scooter Jordan led the way at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI. St. Paul SS Skip Adams also had a productive game offensively. He hit his second home run of the year and scored twice in a 1-for-3 effort.

Fort Worth 3, Shreveport 1

The Fort Worth Cats scored twice in the first inning and it turned out that's all they needed. Cats starter Joel Kirsten out dueled his counterpart Bert Snow through 7 1/3 innings before handing things over to the bullpen. Kirsten allowed one run on five hits and struck out four to improve to 5-5 on the year. Snow was stuck with the hard-luck loss despite pitching well. He allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits and struck out five in eight innings. Fort Worth SS Marc Mirizzi led the way offensively, going 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
