Kansas City Monarchs News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Kansas City T-Bones (30-30) offense fell stagnant for most of Wednesday night as Kansas City dropped the opener to the Sioux Falls Canaries (29-33) 7-4 in their first game back from the All-Star break.
The T-Bones kept it close for most of the game. Kansas City starter Dylan Baker (2-3) kept his team in it, giving up three runs in 4.1 innings. However, Sioux Falls' Keaton Steele (2-6) would counter with six innings of two run ball en route to the win.
After falling behind in the first, KC would get a run on an RBI single off the bat of Ramsey Romano, driving in Mason Davis to make it 1-1. The Canaries would get two in the fifth, but a sacrifice fly by Casey Gillaspie brought home Chris Colabello, making at a one run game at 3-2. The score would hold until the seventh, when Sioux Falls added another. They would pour it on in the eighth, scoring three runs to take a 7-2 lead to the ninth. KC would get a couple back off Canaries pitcher Alex Ogren, as Roy Morales hit his second home run of the year. Dylan Tice would follow with a base hit, bringing home Mason Davis on an error, but their comeback would end there as Taylor Marincov struck out swinging to end the game.
Walks plagued the T-Bones pitchers, as they allowed nine on the night. Evan Korson was able to come in relief of Baker, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings. Henry Owens, however, walked three straight batters, and gave up one run with no outs recorded. Robert Calvano would give up three more runs in the eighth, as he would throw two innings of three run ball.
Roy Morales was one of the bright spots in the T-Bones lineup. Fresh off the All-Star game in St. Paul, Roy finished the day 3-4 with a home run.
KC will look to bounce back in game two on Thursday, July 25 at 7:05 p.m., as Jose Mesa Jr. (0-0) will make his second start for the T-Bones. Alex Boshers (4-2) will get the nod for the Canaries. The game can be heard on the T-Bones Broadcast Network with the pre-game beginning at 6:40 p.m. T-Bones Live Pre-Game show will air at 6:00 p.m. on Facebook Live.
