WINNIPEG, MANITOBA - The Sioux Falls Canaries (5-7) opened up a three-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes (5-6) on Tuesday night, but couldn't find their stride, falling by the final score of 5-3.

Canaries starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn (1-1, 3.12 ERA) threw only four innings for the Birds', allowing four runs on nine hits to go along with four strikeouts. The right hander worked in and out of jams in the first two innings but ran into trouble allowing one or more runs in every inning he pitched except the third.

Lefty newcomer Mike Watt (0-0, 4.15 ERA) entered the game in relief and pitched 2 2/3 innings, shutting Winnipeg down in the fifth inning, but giving up a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Tyler Pearson (0-0, 3.86) came into relief to give the Birds' a chance in the later innings. He went on to throw 1 1/3 innings on no hits and no runs and two strikeouts.

Canaries' third baseman RJ Perucki paced Sioux Falls, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Harrison Kain, Richard Stock and Michael Wing all picked up doubles in the loss. Sioux Falls ended up leaving nine runners on base throughout the contest.

The Birds' are back in action tomorrow night as they face the Goldeyes for game two of a three game series. Miguel Pena (1-1, 2.70 ERA) will make his third start of the season for the Birds' in search of his second win.

The Canaries return to the Birdcage on Monday June 8th, as they open up a seven game home stand against the Grand Prairie AirHogs and St. Paul Saints.
