Seventh Heaven as Saints Roll to 7-3 Victory over AirHogs

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX (June 2, 2015) - Another game, another St. Paul Saints victory. This time they tied the second longest road win streak in franchise history with their seventh consecutive win away from CHS Field in a 7-3 thumping of the Grand Prairie AirHogs on Tuesday night at QuickTrip Park.

For just the fifth time this season the Saints didn't score first, but that was of little consequence. Trailing 1-0 in the third Alonzo Harris hit a solo homer to left, his first of the season, tying the game at one.

In the fourth Mike Kvasnicka extended his hitting streak to a team season high nine games with a single to right. Angelo Songco followed with a single to right. That's when Vinny DiFazio blasted one out to left, his second of the season, to give the Saints a 4-1 lead.

Saints starter Kramer Sneed continued to show the dominance of the Saints starters. After giving up three straight singles with two outs in the first and walking Victor Ferrante to force in a run, Sneed was dominant over the next five innings. He allowed just three singles after that and went 6.0 innings allowing one run on six hits while walking three and striking out eight to pick up his second win of the season.

In the seventh the Saints defense let them down. The inning started when reliever Dylan Chavez gave up a solo homer to Jamodrick McGruder, his first of the season, to make it 4-2. With one out Jon Weber walked and with two outs chaos ensued. Hayden Jennings laid down a perfect bunt to the right side that was fielded by first baseman Angelo Songco. He threw to Sam Maus covering the bag, but Maus couldn't make the barehanded catch. After Maus threw the ball back to the pitcher Chavez, Weber realized no one was covering third and raced to third. There was also no one covering second and Jennings headed towards second. Maus tried to beat him to the bag and Chavez' throw to second wound up in center field allowing Weber to score and sending Jennings to third. Alan Oaks came out of the bullpen to retire Victor Ferrante to end the inning.

The Saints, however, answered in the top of the eighth. With one out and Kvasnicka at first, Songco singled to center that advanced Kvasnicka to third. DiFazio was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Kvasnicka to score and with two outs Steve Nikorak came through with a two-run double giving the Saints a four run advantage.

The Saints pounded out 14 hits, with everyone collecting at least one hit. The top three hitters in the order, Harris, Maus and Willie Argo all collected two hits while Songco was 3-4 with two runs scored.

The seventh straight road win ties the second longest win streak away from home also done on June 6-23, 1995 and August 26-September 9, 1995, although the latter includes two playoff games. It's also the sixth time in franchise history the Saints have won seven times in a row, the last time August 17-24, 2012.

The final game of the three game series and final game of the nine game roadtrip is Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at QuickTrip Park. The Saints send RHP Jeff Shields (2-0, 3.27) to the mound against AirHogs RHP T.J. Bozeman (0-0, 2.70). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
