Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

GARY, IND. - A two-run single from Mitch Glasser in the eighth and seven solid innings from starter Mark Seyler powered the Sioux Falls Canaries to a 6-4 comeback win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Sunday at the U. S. Steel Yard.

The Birds came back from a 4-0 deficit in the victory, tied for the biggest come-from-behind win for the Canaries this season.

The RailCats scored three in the second off Canaries starter Mark Seyler. Andy DeJesus plated the first two runs with a triple, and Cole Fabio scored DeJesus with an RBI single to make it 3-0.

An RBI single by Will Savage in the fourth inning made it 4-0.

From there, the Birds started their comeback, putting runners on first and second with one out in the fifth. Dan Motl knocked an RBI single to get the Canaries on the board.

That put men on first and third for Mitch Glaser, who laid down a bunt on a squeeze play. Jordan Smith scored from third, avoiding the tag from RailCats catcher Andy Paz. Gary SouthShore led 4-2 after five.

RailCats starter Jeff McKenzie went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out five.

Reliever Robbie Coursel ran into trouble in the seventh. Maxx Garrett led off the inning with a solo home run, his 11th of the year.

Dan Motl drew a walk two batters later, moving to second on a ground ball from Glasser. That brought up David Bergin, who hit an RBI single to tie the game.

Seyler worked seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Canaries took the lead in the eighth inning. A double by Motl put runners on second and third, and both scored on an RBI single from Mitch Glasser. Glasser finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs against his former team.

Birds reliever Ryan Fritze struck out the side in the eighth, and Kyle Schepel earned his 11th save with a hitless ninth inning.
