Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wingnuts could only muster two runs for the third consecutive game, as the Chicago Dogs completed the sweep with a 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

After Travis Banwart and Chicago starter Wes Torrez traded zeroes through the first three innings, the Dogs (37-47) struck first on a Rubi Silva RBI groundout that scored Edwin Arroyo. The Wingnuts (51-35) managed to scratch across a two-out run in the bottom of the fifth, as Leo Vargas singled home Nick Rotola to knot the game at 1-1.

Chicago responded promptly with the go-ahead run in the sixth, surging in front on Silva's sacrifice fly to center. They added another in the seventh on a Stephen Perez RBI triple, and one more in the eight on another Silva sac fly for a 4-1 lead.

Angel Reyes plated an eighth inning run for Wichita with a two-out RBI double that trimmed the deficit to 4-2.

Brandon White (1-0) picked up the win for Chicago with 1.1 innings of relief, allowing the only run that the Dogs bullpen surrendered in 13.1 innings over the series. Banwart (6-4) took the tough-luck loss, tossing seven innings while allowing seven hits and three runs, only two earned. He struck out seven and walked just one.

The Wingnuts welcome in the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the first of a three-game series on Monday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM, and will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
