Canadiens Sign Five-Time AHL All-Star Forward Martin St-Pierre

MONTREAL, QUEBEC - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the signing of free agent forward Martin St-Pierre to a one-year, two-way American Hockey League / National Hockey League contract for the 2013-2014 season.

St-Pierre, 29, produced 59 points (26 goals, 33 assists), posted a +11 rating and recorded 59 penalty minutes in 76 games with Rockford while serving as the IceHogs' captain last season. On January 5th, 2013, the Ottawa, Ontario native became the 83rd player in AHL history to record 500 career points. On January 17th, 2013, the 5'9", 187-pound forward was selected to participate in AHL All-Star Classic for the fifth time in his career.

In 516 career regular season AHL games with the Edmonton Roadrunners, Norfolk Admirals, Rockford IceHogs, Providence Bruins, Binghamton Senators and Springfield Falcons, St-Pierre has registered 528 points (151 goals, 377 assists). The centre was named to the AHL's All-Rookie Team in 2005-2006, selected as an AHL First-Team All-Star in 2006-2007 and as an AHL Second Team All-Star in 2007-2008. In seven AHL seasons St. Pierre has finished among the top 10 in overall scoring four times, has scored 20-or-more goals five times and has produced 60-or-more points six times, setting career-highs in goals (27), assists (72) and points (99) with the Norfolk Admirals in 2006-2007.

In 38 career regular season NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators, St-Pierre has collected eight points (three goals, five assists).

Following four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm, St-Pierre turned professional in 2004-2005. In addition to the NHL and AHL, the left-handed-shooting forward has played in the ECHL, Kontinental Hockey League, in Austria and in Finland during his nine-year career.
