Canadiens Re-Sign Goaltender Robert Mayer

MONTREAL, QUEBEC - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the signing of goaltender Robert Mayer to a two-year, two-way American Hockey League / National Hockey League contract for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Mayer, 23, played 38 games with Hamilton in 2012-2013, posting 16 wins, 17 losses, three shootout losses, a 2.93 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. In 99 career AHL games with the Bulldogs, the 6'01=1B$B!G!G=1B(B, 188-pound netminder has a record of 39-45-7, a 2.95 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.
In 2009-2010, the Havirov, Czech Republic native recorded 19 wins, 10 losses, one overtime loss, no shootout losses, two shutouts, a 2.81 goals against average and a .889 save percentage in 31 regular season games with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones. In the post-season, Mayer was 6-0-1-0 with three shutouts, a league-best 1.54 goals against average and a .938 save percentage in nine games. The left-handed-catching goaltender was named co-Most Valuable Player of the 2010 Kelly Cup Playoffs as he helped the Cincinnati Cyclones capture the ECHL championship.
Prior to turning professional, Mayer spent two seasons with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Saint John Sea Dogs from 2007-2009 and represented Switzerland at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation's World Under-20 Championships.
Mayer first signed with the Montreal Canadiens as a free agent on September 25, 2008.
