Vancouver Canadians News Release
(PK Park - Eugene, OR) - The Canadians equaled a dubious mark on Tuesday after falling 6-4 to Eugene as the loss dropped Vancouver to 8-12 (.400) through 20 games, matching a franchise low (2008).
Vancouver opened up the scoring in the top of the 1st inning with a pair of runs, but Canadians starter LHP Dan Young was touched up for four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning as he took the loss in his first professional start.
The Canadians were limited to just six hits on the night, with 2B Rolando Segovia grabbing two of them. Vancouver ran into tough pitching as the Emeralds set a season-high striking out 15 C's hitters including SS Gunnar Heidt three times.
How the Canadians Scored:
Top 1: SS Gunnar Heift doubled off of Eugene starter LHP Justin Steele, scoring on a triple off the bat of RF Sean Hurley. Hurley scored on a wild pitch that gave Vancouver a 2-0 lead.
Top 2: Trailing by two runs, C Kevin Garcia hit a two-out double, advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single from 2B Rolando Segovia.
Top 5: Down 5-3, 2B Rolando Segovia led off the inning with a single off of LHP Justin Steele, stole second base 91st SB of the season) and scored on a fielding error from Eugene SS Ho-Young Son who couldn't handle a ground ball from CF Earl Burl III.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 8-12 (.400) on the season, four games back of North Division leading Everett who won Tuesday night. The Canadians return home to Scotiabank Field after Wednesday's series finale against Eugene at 7:05pm as RHP Clinton Hollon looks to help Vancouver snap a three-game losing skid. The C's are 4-8 (.333) on the road this season and have lost four of the first five series in 2015.
