Martinez's Performance Carries Indians in Win

SPOKANE, Wash. - Jamie Potts doubled to center in the eighth and scored on a fielder's choice as pinch hitter Diego Cedeno grounded out to first. The run was the last tally Spokane would need as the Indians beat the Hawks 3-2 in front of 4,701 fans at Avista Stadium on Tuesday night. It was Baseball Hat Giveaway presented by Pepsi, Arby's and The Inlander.

Emerson Martinez continued his rebound after two unsettling early-season performances. Martinez struck out five while allowing only one run one three hits in his five innings of work. He lowered his ERA to 5.87. The Venezuelan has allowed just one run in his previous two starts after plating 10 in his first two.

Spokane jumped on the board early, as Dylan Moore's ground out allowed LeDarious Clark to score. Clark singled in his first at-bat of the evening, keeping his hitting streak alive at 17 games. Clark finished 2-for-4 to raise his league-leading average to .411.

In the bottom of the fourth, Yeyson Yrizarri hit a line drive to right field to score Sherman Lacrus. It was Yrizarri's ninth RBI of the season.

Boise's Terry McClure scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.

Spokane continues its five-game series against the Boise Hawks tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 8th for Youth Baseball Night presented by Wittkopf Landscape Supplies, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country and 700 ESPN. There will be a Pre-Game LEO's Photography Youth Baseball Clinic starting at 3:30 PM. First pitch is at 6:30.
