Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Corey Simpson continued to provide RBIs from the cleanup spot, driving in three runs for the second game in a row as the AquaSox won 4-3 over Hillsboro on Wednesday, July 8, at Everett Memorial Stadium. Simpson was 2 for 3 in the contest and took the league lead for RBIs with 21.
Simpson started knocking in runs early, with one in the first to even the score at 1-all. His RBI single scored Braden Bishop from second base. He also drove in Jordan Cowan on a sacrifice fly in the third inning, giving Everett a 3-1 lead.
The third RBI came in the fifth, as Simpson singled again to score Jordan Cowan and make it a 4-1 AquaSox lead. The Hops would come back in the seventh with two runs, but Troy Scott shut the door to earn the win on the mound.
Arturo Nieto hit in the Frogs' other run on a sacrifice fly in the second, scoring Drew Jackson after he stole second and third. Those were the speedy shortstop's 11th and 12th steals of the season, good for the NWL lead.
Luiz Gohara started on the hill for Everett and went four innings with five hits, one earned run, four walks and five strikeouts. Scott came in with three runners on in the seventh and got a fielder's choice and strikeout to end the inning. Kyle Wilcox earned the save with a flawless ninth.
The AquaSox are on the road in Boise for a five-game set beginning at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, July 9, but return home for a three-game series with Vancouver on Wednesday, July 15. That game will be a BECU Family Night with $5 Field Box seats, and a 2 for $26 Wednesday presented by the Daily Herald.
