
Canadian University Player of the Year Asselin Joins Beast

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, announce today that 2015-16 CIS Player of the Year Guillaume Asselin has signed a contract with the St. John's IceCaps and has been assigned to the Brampton Beast.
Asselin, a 24-year-old Quebec City native, has been a goal-scoring force at every level of hockey.
The 5'11" winger just completes his fourth season of play at the University of Quebec - Trois-Rivieres where he lit the lamp at an eye-opening pace. Over 80 career games in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) system, Asselin netted 58 goals and chipped in with 67 helpers for 125 total points between the 2013-14 and 2016-17 seasons.
His most productive season of university hockey came in the 2015-16 campaign, where he suited up for 28 contests and scored an incredible 27 goals, added 20 assists for 47 points, leading the country in goals and points.
His impressive season earned him numerous accolades. He was named to the CIS First All-Star Team and was the winner of the prestigious Senator Joseph A. Sullivan Trophy as the CIS Player of the Year.
Prior to starting his university career, Asselin was a productive go-to scorer in the QMJHL. Starting in the 2008-09 season with the Montreal Juniors and ending in 2012-13 season with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, he played in 331 career QMJHL games and lit the lamp 132 times and contributed 174 assists for 306 points.
As a member of the Sagueneens from 2010-11 to 2012-13, he recorded back-to-back 30-goal seasons (35 goals in 2010-11 and 33 goals in 2011-12) and was named to the QMJHL's Second All-Star Team for his offensive output in 2010-11.
Asselin is expected to join the Beast this week as the club hosts their North Division rivals, the Reading Royals, starting on Thursday, March 9 at the Powerade Centre at 7:15PM.
