Tanner Sorenson scored at 1:10 of overtime to give the Kalamazoo Wings a 3-2 victory over the host Mallards.

Saturday, March 4

Quad City 6 Indy 1

Chase Lang scored twice as the host Mallards ripped off six unanswered goals on the way to a 6-1 victory over the Indy Fuel.

QUACK TRACKS

Homestand

The Mallards went 2-0-1 over the three-game homestand that ended with Saturday's 6-1 win over Indy.

Central

The third-place Mallards are three points ahead of the fourth-place Wings in the Central Division standings. The Mallards have two games in hand on Kalamazoo. The Mallards went 3-2-1 while playing each of their last six games against division opposition.

Axtell

The Mallards have gone 13-6-1 in 20 games since Phil Axtell took over as head coach on January 20.

Six Shooter

The Mallards have scored six goals in two of their last three games. The Mallards bookended their homestand with a 6-4 victory over the Wichita Thunder last Sunday and Saturday's 6-1 win over the Fuel. The Mallards are tied for seventeenth in the ECHL in goals scored (3.0 per game) and rank ninth in goals against (3.1).

Undermanned

The Mallards won Saturday with just 17 players in uniform instead of the standard 18 after losing four players- forwards Adam Gilmour (Iowa Wild), Nolan LaPorte (Iowa) and Jack Nevins (Iowa) and goaltender C.J. Motte (Chicago Wolves)- to the American Hockey League Thursday.

Fueling the Fire

The Mallards have outscored Indy 18-4 while winning their last three games against the Fuel.

Overtime

Wednesday's loss was the Mallards' first overtime defeat this season. The Mallards are now 3-1 in games decided in sudden death.

Sudden Death

Wednesday's loss ended the Mallards' streak of eight straight wins in games tied at the end of regulation. Before falling to the Wings Wednesday, the Mallards had won three games in sudden death and five in the shootout since suffering a 3-2 shootout loss to Kalamazoo on December 7.

Shooting Gallery

The Mallards have taken at least 36 shots in each of their last three games and have played four straight games in which either they (twice) or their foes (twice) have piled up at least 40 shots.

Josh MacDonald is on a six-game point-scoring streak (5-2-7).

Grant Arnold has scored in each of his last three games.

Between the Pipes

Adam Vay made 26 saves to earn the win Saturday after Motte stopped 34 Kalamazoo shots in Wednesday's overtime setback.

Milestones

Mike Wilson has 199 career regular season assists...Chris Francis has scored 97 career ECHL goals...Dylan Labbe has played 94 career games...Guillaume Gelinas has played 91 career games.

Special Teams

The Mallards have killed off their opponents' last 23 power plays. The Mallards rank fifteenth in the ECHL in penalty killing (82.3 percent) and twenty-fifth on the power play (13.0 percent).

Head-to-Head

The Mallards have gone 0-3-0 against Wheeling this season. The two clubs complete their season series this weekend. In their only prior visit to WesBanco Arena this year, the Mallards fell 5-2 on January 27. The Mallards have gone 1-4-0 against the Nailers all-time and 0-2-0 in Wheeling.

The Mallards have partnered with Metro to provide transit service between Augustana College and downtown Moline during all Friday home games. As part of Metro's unlimited ride program, Augustana Riders can use their Augustana ID as their fare.

Fox Sports Radio 1230 is the radio home of Mallards Hockey Presented by Genesis Power Sports Performance. Mallards games broadcast on AM 1230 also stream live online at www.wfxn.net . A limited number of Mallards games will not air on Fox Sports Radio 1230 due to conflicts with University of Illinois basketball and football and Green Bay Packer football.
