Campbell Nets Three-Point Game in Shootout Loss to Gladiators

Duluth, GA -The South Carolina Stingrays (28-20-1-2) erased a two-goal deficit late in the third period, but the Gwinnett Gladiators (22-22-2-5) prevailed in the shootout 5-4 in front of 4,072 at The Arena at Gwinnet Center Sunday afternoon.
Gladiators forward Danick Paquette kick-started the scoring just 2:35 into the first period sending a loose puck over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Shane Owen from the bottom of the circles with help from forward Kyle Kucharski. The Stingrays tied the contest moments later when forward Trent Campbell slipped a wrist shot inside the right-wing post of Gladiators keeper Edward Pasquale at 4:44. Forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien and defenseman Nate Kiser earned the assists. Paquette reclaimed the lead for the Gladiators at 12:16 from Kucharski and forward Justin Milo. Seconds after Paquette's ninth of the season, forward Andy Brandt made it 3-1 Gladiators at 12:35 from forward Michael Forney.
Rays defenseman Patrick Cullity pulled the contest within one midway through the second period lifting a shot over the left shoulder over Pasquale at 10:42. Defenseman Derek Keller and Campbell recorded assists. The Gladiators responded with a power-play marker at 11:49 when forward Tim Miller snapped a shot under the pads of Owen from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Forward Akim Aliu and Pat Galivan assisted on Miller's 20 tally of the season.
The Stingrays fought back with two goals late in the third period to send the contest to overtime. Forward Matt Scherer started the comeback by deflecting a Dustin Stevenson shot past the blocker of Pasquale at 15:23. Keller registered the second assist. O'Brien tied the contest with his 12 of the season at 16:48 from defenseman Josh Godfrey and Campbell. After a scoreless overtime, the Gladiators grabbed goals from Aliu and Galivan in the shootout. Ricci scored the lone shootout marker for the Stingrays.
Owen suffered the loss stopping 26 of 30 Gladiators shots. Pasquale picked up his second straight victory over the Stingrays blocking 24 of 28 chances. The Stingrays ended the night 0-for-5 on the power play while the Gladiators went 1-for-4.
