Elmira Jackals News Release
Ontario, Calif - The Elmira Jackals (20-20-6-1) dropped a stunning 6-5 overtime decision to the Ontario Reign (17-28-2-2) on Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Alex Bourret scored the game winner on a power play in overtime to give the Reign their second-straight post-regulation victory against the Jackals.
Andrew Sweetland drove in a puck on a feed from Patrick Coulombe just after Elmira's first power play of the game ended at 4:21 of the opening period to put the Jackals up 1-0.
Elmira added to its lead when Brian Lebler wristed a puck in from the left circle for his first professional goal at 10:03 of the first to make it 2-0.
In the second period, Brock McBride sent in a puck from the slot off of a feed from Dale Mahovsky to add to Elmira's lead, 3-0, at 2:09.
Chaz Johnson scored short handed, however, to bring the Reign to within two with their first goal of the game at 8:18 of the second, 3-1.
Moments after Johnson's tally, McBride fed R.J. Anderson from behind the net on the power play to the slot, and Anderson knocked in Elmira's fourth goal of the game at 8:36 to extend Elmira's lead to 4-1.
A goal by Kyle Kraemer at 13:59 of the second brought the Reign to within 4-2 heading into the third period.
Shawn Collymore's wrist shot from the right circle snuck over the glove of Jackals goaltender Timo Pielmeier for a Reign power-play goal at 12:14 of the third to make it 4-3, Elmira.
The Jackals bounced back though with a tip-in goal from Justin Donati on a Sweetland feed at 14:09 to extend Elmira's lead to two goals, 5-3.
A pair of Jordan Morrison strikes sent the game to overtime. Morrison made it 5-4 right after Elmira's fifth goal on a centering pass from Johnson at the right post at 14:36 and then tied the game on a feed from Justin Taylor in the left circle at 15:58 of the third, 5-5.
In overtime, Bourret drove in a Morrison feed from the right circle on the power play at 3:56 to give Ontario the 6-5 win.
Pielmeier stopped 22 of 28 shots as he dropped to 0-0-1-0 with the Jackals. Beau Erickson made 27 saves in Ontario's net to improve to 6-8-1-1.
