Aces beat Thunder in OT

Kory Falite scored two goals, including the game winner 2:15 into overtime on Saturday Night, as the Alaska Aces beat the Stockton Thunder 4-3 from Sullivan Arena. Alaska won their third straight game, and improved to 27-18-3 on the year. They moved into a tie with the Thunder for third place in the Western Conference, based on winning percentage. The Aces and Thunder will conclude their weekend series on Sunday afternoon. The first period was a wild one to set the tone of the hockey game. The Aces struck first at 3:58 of the period when Tyler Ruegsegger scored on his own rebound to open the scoring. Stockton got on the board amid some controversy at 11:25 of the frame. Jordan Fulton's shot appeared to carom off the crossbar and goal post and then wide, but after a discussion between referee Jarrod Ragusin and the goal judge, it was ruled a goal. The Thunder quickly took their first lead when Chris Lawrence scored on a wrist shot from the high slot at 13:10 to make it 2-1 Stockton. It was the Aces turn to answer at 13:46 when Falite got his first of the night from the right circle. Minutes later, Mark Isherwood scored a power play goal from the slot to make it 3-2 Aces at 16:51. The teams combined for five goals in the opening period, despite the Aces being outshot 13-7 in the frame.

After a scoreless second period, the Aces took their one-goal lead into the third. Midway through the frame, Jarrett Konkle scored at 9:38 to tie the score 3-3. The Thunder outshot the Aces 9-3 in the frame, and tried to reclaim the lead, but Gerald Coleman closed the door. In the overtime, the Aces started generating scoring chances, and Falite finished off the game with a turnaround shot from the right circle to give the Aces the win.

Gerald Coleman (20-12-1) made 25 saves on 28 shots, earning the win. Bryan Pitton (16-7-3) took the overtime loss, making 16 saves on 20 shots. The Aces power play went 1-2, while the Thunder went 0-2. The Aces were outshot by the Thunder 28-20 in the game.
