Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Kings have the Miracle on Manchester and now the Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, have the Comeback on Concours, as they climb out of an early 3-0 hole and overcome a 5-3 deficit with just over five minutes left in regulation to beat the Elmira Jackals 6-5 in overtime at Citizens Business Bank Arena Saturday night before a crowd of 8,382. Jordan Morrison scored two goals in the third period to tie the game and assisted on Alex Bourret's game-winner in overtime.
The Reign fell behind 2-0 on first-period goals by Andrew Sweetland at 4:22 and Brian Lebler at 10:03 before Brock McBride made it 3-0 at 2:09 of the second period.
Chaz Johnson notched a short-handed goal to cut the Elmira lead to 3-1 at 8:18, as he stole the puck, drew goaltender Timo Pielmeier to the ice with a nifty move, and tucked the puck into the net just inside the right post. It was Johnson's third goal in two games. Elmira added a goal by R.J. Anderson at 8:36 to take a 4-1 lead before Kyle Kraemer's eighth goal of the season at 13:59 cut the lead to 4-2. Aaron Lewadniuk's shot bounced off the dasher boards and right to Kraemer, who tapped it for the score.
Shawn Collymore drew the reign to within one with a power-play goal at 12:14 of the third period. Collymore took a feed from Jordan Morrison as he followed the play into the Elmira zone and sailed a wrist shot past Pielmeier to make 4-3. Justin Donati made 5-3 at 14:09, but Morrison scored goals 82 seconds apart to tie the game at five. At 14:36, he crashed the net and tipped in a centering pass from Johnson, followed by a one-timer off of a behind-the-net feed from Justin Taylor at 15:58 to send the game into overtime.
Ontario gained a man advantage late in overtime after McBride was called for tripping and Bourret made it count. Walker sent the puck down low to Morrison at the red line and he found Bourret, who snapped it into the far side of the net to give the reign the 6-5 win with just over a minute left in overtime.
Beau Erickson earned the win with 27 saves and Pielmeier took the loss with 22 saves.
